Based in Los Angeles, California, in the depths of the San Fernando Valley, hidden in Van Nuys, CA, Jesus Guzman takes inspiration from the many legends like Madlib, MF DOOM, Alchemist, J Dilla, and Pete Rock to make sampled-based hip-hop beats. Using the MPC 2500 as his main work horse, he combines samples with his various synths and drums to make rhythms and moods that'll hypnotize any listener.
His journey started when he got is first sampler, the SP 505. On there, he started cutting his teeth into the sampling world. Flipping and dicing record after record, dusting off drum breaks and sampling his own bass, Jesus released an SP 505 only beat tape, 99 Miles From LA (2021). Here you can hear sampled loops and drum breaks forming a cycling dance between the pull and release of each element with a low end punching you in the gut. JG was getting proficient, but was feeling limited with the SP 505.
Stumbling on an Offerup listing, JG met up at a Ralph's parking lot and got his hands on a brand new MPC 2500. From there on, it's been about experimentation and seeing what kind of beats he can get out of the machine. Buying more synths and discovering the powers of MIDI, JG combined samples, drums, and synths to craft his sound. "Symbiosis" (2022) is a perfect representation of where his sound is heading. Getting more heavy and hypnotizing than what was being made before. Still working on his sound, JG promises to provide quality, uniqueness, and creativity in his music.
